January 21-January 27

Man, what a cold week in the ATL. I must say, I am beginning to hate running in this cold weather. It is so hard to get motivated to get out and run when it is so cold. At one point this week, I decided to not run anymore till Saturday and hope for warmer temperatures, but that thought did not last very long. This week, I missed 2 runs, but the few runs that I was able to get in were some good ones. Also, due to my good Saturday run, I am confident now that I will be ready for the ING Georgia Marathon, so that is comforting. This week I also got some good speed work in due to not running that much. This week I am planning to get some speed training in once as well as some good hill training.

Here are this week's results:

Monday: Unable to Run
Tuesday: Unable to Run
Wednesday: 7.3 mi/59:35/2-JF Hills/5-Fartleks
Thursday: 10.2 mi/1:25:20/L1-28:20/L2-28:09/L3-28:49/Ran with a friend at Roswell Park
Friday: REST
Saturday: 17.5 mi/2:27:56/Ran solo
Sunday: REST
Mileage=35 mi

In spite of missing a few runs this week, the week has been pretty productive. I had planned to run on Sunday with my wife and just take it easy, but we both decided to just take it easy and rest. As I have always said, a little rest never hurt anyone. I can honestly say, due to my missing Monday and Tuesday, I felt totally refreshed and had some really good runs the rest of the week. Wednesday and Saturday's runs were both fairly hilly, which is always a good thing. After Saturday's run, I felt pretty good and really wished I had run a bit longer. Next Saturday my training will increase to a 3 hour run, so I am sure to get a good 20 miler in come Saturday.

Check out the elevation profile for each of my runs this week. Hope everyone has had a great week of training!

KEEP RUNNING!

January 14-January 20

Can you say, chillllly! Whew, the ATL has finally gotten some cold weather. I guess winter is finally here. As a matter of fact, this week marked my first time ever running in snow. I have never seen it snow so hard and it was a treat just to be able to run in it. I actually started my Saturday run thinking that I was going to run for 2.5 hours. It did not happen! As I think back about the month of January, I have been a bit disappointed. I just have not been able to get my longer runs in like I had hoped. I am hoping to close the month of January with a really good 2.5 hour run!

Here are this week's results:

Monday: Unable to Run
Tuesday: 11 mi/1:29:50/L1-45:03/L2-44:47/**See the elevation profile
Wednesday: 6 mi/58:58/L1-29:09/L2-29:48/Ran with a friend
Thursday: Unable to Run
Friday: REST
Saturday: 5 mi/41:51/L1-21:34/L2-20:17
Sunday: REST
Mileage: 22 mi

All-in-all, I don't think this week was too terribly bad. As I think about my Tuesday run, there were a lot of hills. Also, I have been running only about 10.5 miles in 90 minutes and as you can see, I made it to 11 miles in 90 minutes. I guess I don't need to be to hard on myself. As I have always said, REST is always a good thing. This will be a very short week for me work-wise as I am only working on Tuesday and Wednesday, so I should be able to get some miles in this week!

Stay warm and enjoy running in the cold frigid temperatures in the ATL!

January 7-January 13

This week started out really well, but ended not so well. I started the week out running with some friends for my 1 hour run and on Tuesday, I had a really good 1.5 hour run and the rest of the week was down hill. It rained a good bit this week in Atlanta, so that was the cause of me missing the last two runs for the most part. To top it off, I was not able to get my 2.5 hour run in at all this weekend.

Here are this week's results:

Monday: 5.6 mi/54:36/L1-27:15/L2-27:20/Ran with Dan and Jason
Tuesday: 10.5 mi/1:28:20/L1-44:57/L2-43:23
Wednesday: Unable to Run
Thursday: Unable to Run
Friday: REST
Saturday: 8 mi/1:01:42/Ran with a pace team for the ING GA Marathon
Sunday: 6 mi/46:29/L1-24:08/L2-22:20/Tempo run
Mileage=30.1

The week wasn't all that bad. I will definitely need to do a better job this week. That being said, I am rather happy with the condition that I am in right now. I think due to my good training for my last marathon, I can afford to miss some runs. Not that I want to, but I am not going to beat myself up when missing one or two. Hopefully, this week I will be able to get back on track after Monday. I already know that I am going to miss my Monday run, but the rest of the week looks pretty good for me.

Have a good week of training!

December 31-January 6

Training time for ol LJ! I am excited to get started this month for the ING Georgia Marathon in March. This week has not been too terribly bad as I was able to get 4 runs in and only miss Monday and Tuesday. As the holiday season officially comes to an end and as I get back to work, training time is upon me. My plan is to get some time in the gym pumping some iron in the a.m. and then doing my runs in the evening. As in the past races, I am going to be using the Arthur Lydiard training program that I have modified, of course. Here are next weeks runs as well as the schedule for the month of January:

Monday: 1 hour
Tuesday: 1.5 hours
Wednesday: 1 hour
Thursday: 1.5 hours
Friday: REST
Saturday: 2.5 hours
Sunday: 30 minutes

Here are this week's results:

Monday: REST
Tuesday: REST
Wednesday: 6.2 mi/55:22/Ran with Dan
Thursday: 8 mi/1:01:43/L1-32:00/L2-29:42
Friday: REST
Saturday: 9.7 mi/1:30:44/Ran with Allen
Sunday: 16.5 mi/2:35:03/L1-53:25/L2-53:38/L3-47:59/Ran with Dan on L1/L2
Mileage=40.4

It's been awhile since running so much in a week. I am feeling pretty darn good after that 16.5 miler today! I am looking forward to getting back to my marathon training schedule this week! I am planning to run with a couple of friends tomorrow for some of my hour run, but probably not all of it. I will finish solo and probably get a little bit of speed work in. I am back to school tomorrow, so my training runs will start in the evenings as I get back to some weights. I am hoping to start my morning workouts with weights this week to try to tone up a bit so that I am not soooo skinny! Wish me luck as 5:30 comes a bit early and I try to adjust to being back at school. Speaking of school, I am teaching a new subject this Spring, Exploring Technology. I have always taught Business Education, so this is something new for me. I must say, it is pretty exciting! I am a bit worried as expected when doing something new, but I feel pretty ready!

Have a GREAT week of running and as always, KEEP RUNNING!
