August 31-September 6

Wow, I actually had another productive week with some good miles. I increased my miles this week to 5 and felt great each day I ran. No set back this week. I also even got a ride in on Sunday! Definitely a good week. It would be nice if I could increase to 6 miles each run this week, but I probably will not try that. My thinking is that maybe one of my runs this week will be a 6 miler and the rest will stay at 5 and maybe on the weekend, I can increase to a 8 miler.

Here are this week's results:

Monday: 5.2 mi(run)/44:44/Nice morning run after some new stretches. Felt great the entire run and then used my new stretches after the run. Definitely took my time. Good 5 miler!

Tuesday: REST

Wednesday: 5.2 mi(run)/43:53/Easy morning run after a day off. I had planned to go further to make up for my missed run on Tuesday, but changed my mind. The weather was perfect with the much cooler temp. Stretched the adductor area very good this morning after my run.

Thursday: 5.1 mi(run)/47:34/Ran at Roswell Area Park with Dan. Very nice run with some hills at a very comfortable, easy pace. Pain-free run!

Friday: SPIN

Saturday: 6.9 mi(run)/59:50/Comfortable 7 miler with several hills. Adductor felt pretty good for most of the run. I did a lot of yard work after the run.

Sunday: 26 mi(bike)/1:33:18/Good solo bike ride with several hills. Really enjoyed the cooler temps and a very quiet ride. Felt great!

Weekly Miles: 22.4 miles(run)/26 miles(bike)

This week will be another trial for me. We'll see how it goes and I will continue to do my adductor stretches and icing and see if things continue to get better. I am pretty excited and hopeful! Hope everyone is enjoying the 3 day weekend and Happy Labor Day to all. Good luck at the US 10k Classic!

August 24-August 30

Well, another pretty good week of training! I got a few more miles in than I did last week, so I am very excited about that. This past week has been a week of research for me. I decided to check and see if I could find more information on my groin injury. I am happy to report that through my research I have a new hope and feel pretty confident that I will shake this injury.

Here are this week's results

Monday: 3.9 mi(run)/32:51/Nice, easy run after a 3 day break from running. New route also without any hills.

Tuesday: 4.1 mi(run)/34:22/Good run. I felt pretty good and took it easy the entire run.

Wednesday: 4.1 mi(run)/38:20/Nice run with some hills at Roswell Area Park with Dan. Very easy, comfortable pace.

Thursday: 4.4 mi(run)/37:19/Nice comfortable pace this morning where I still took it easy. I really wanted to run further, but chose not to.

Friday: REST

Saturday: 6.5 mi(run)/55:37/Very good comfortable run after a day off from running. Felt great and really wanted to run further, but did not want to over do it!

Sunday: REST

Weekly Miles: 23 miles(run)/0 miles(bike)

I had planned to go for a long bike ride on Sunday, but the rain would not allow it. No biggie, REST is never a bad idea. I am hopeful to get a ride in this week, probably one day after school. This means a run in the a.m. and a ride in the p.m. I will probably increase my miles this week, not by much, but probably 5 milers each day with hopefully a long run on Saturday. I am hoping to continue my new stretching techniques and hopeful to start running more hills. I will definitely take it easy on the hills instead of kicking it like I generally do. Even though I am excited about my progress, I will still continue to take it easy on most of my runs. Hope everyone has a GREAT week and happy training!

August 17-August 23

I am happy to report yet another great week of training! I got new shoes on Thursday and therefore, ran in the evening. First time in a very long time running in the evening. I definitely prefer the morning run. At any rate, a great evening run. On Saturday, I decided to work in the yard and thus, no running or riding. That being said, I did work my butt off in the yard with my lovely wife! Wow, what a difference a little work makes. We are in the process of re-doing our backyard. Great job sweetie, I really like the ideas that you came up with. You are correct, I never like your ideas at first, but once the job is completed, you continue to amaze me! Great job!

Here are this week's results:

Monday: 4.2 mi(run)/36:03/Good run after a 3 day break. Took it easy for the most part and felt pretty refreshed.

Tuesday: 4.2 mi(run)/33:31/Wow, nice run on a very muggy morning. I felt great and wanted to push myself harder, but did not want to overdo it.

Wednesday: 4.2 mi(run)/34:50/Nice comfortable run. A lady passed me and I had a hard time resisting the urge to catch her, so I just decided not to let her get out of my sight. Ran faster and harder than I needed to.

Thursday: 4.2 mi(run)/36:42/Whew! Hills that I did not want to run nor need to be running, nevertheless I took my time and had a great run in my new shoes!

Friday: SPIN

Saturday: Yard work

Sunday: 22.6 mi(bike)/1:36:56/Nice, comfortable bike ride with Allen. Of course, riding in Buckhead always calls for a lot of hills.

Weekly Miles: 16.8 miles(run)/22.6 miles(bike)

Well, as you can see, I did not get in quite as many miles as last week, but I am still happy with my training. This week, I am hoping to get in a few more miles. This weekend was tough for me as I rode my bike on my old 20 mile run route, it brought back many memories. I wondered if I would ever get back to being able to run 20 miles. Man, I miss that! Oh well, life goes on. I am doing some research on lower adductor strains and groin muscles trying to find out as much information as I can on what my problem is. I am very hopeful that I will get through this. I am so grateful that the pain is nowhere near where it was when I realized that I had a problem. That being said, things could be worse. Hope everyone had a great week of training and wow, how bout those cooler temperatures this morning! Awesome!

August 10-August 16

Well, I am happy to report that I survived my first week back to school with the kids! It was actually a very good week and the transition went a lot smoother than expected. The first few days I was pretty pooped, but it seems like I got stronger and stronger throughout the week and the afternoon naps pretty much vanished.

Definitely a GREAT week of training!

This week I will probably scale back to just running 4 miles each day instead of the 5 milers. Also, I will probably go for a long run on Saturday.

Here are this week's results:

Monday: 5.3 mi(run)/46:18/First day back to school with kids, what a way to start my day! Great 5 mile run even though it was once again very humid!

Tuesday: 5.3 mi(run)/45:35/Very rough start, but I finished pretty strong and I felt pretty darn good.

Wednesday: 5.3 mi(run)/45:13/Wow, another rough start, but a very strong finish! Tried not to overdo it coming in.

Thursday: 5.3 mi(run)/48:03/Easy run. I took my time and just tried to run as slow as possible. Did not run quite as slow as I was hoping to.

Friday: REST

Saturday: 39 mi(bike)/2:46:03/Wow, 39 miles! This by far was my longest bike ride since getting a bike. Definitely a GREAT ride with Allen and Bob!

Sunday: REST

Weekly Miles: 21.2 miles(run)/39 miles(bike)

**Please visit the MotionBased link to see more information about each of my runs this week!**

As you can see, I was able to finish my week off with a really nice, long bike ride. My two friends had actually mentioned us doing a 30 miler and I originally was a bit skeptical. Not so much as if I wondered whether or not I could do it, but more so if I felt up for it. Well, I was up for it and a little bit further as you can see from the results. I was pretty pooped the rest of the day and took it easy the rest of the day. I also decided to take it easy on Sunday instead of going for a run like I had planned.
